Yes, this is the overwhelming estimate of eMarketer for the year 2007! According to their research, the 18.5 million podcast audience  could reach 65 million in the year 2012 which is equivalent to an increase of 251%.

Of course, the above figures do not mean that all of those audiences are absolute listeners of podcast because according to the same report,  for the year 2007, the estimated number of audiences that are considered active (those who download podcast once or twice a week) is 6.5 million which are expected to increase up to 25 million after 5 years.

The promising growth of podcasting is accounted from the fact that there is a growing awareness and promotion of podcasting. Additionally, the use of portable players are continuously on rise and as time goes by, the mobile data plans and the innovation in smart phones all contributes to the popularity of podcast shows.

And in my own opinion, another factor that gives progression to podcasting is the podcast show itself, I noticed that the podcast shows nowadays are well-produced and contain information that is real and timely.
